Voice of Art - Illegal Billboards, Pt. 1

This is one of the many mini series on Pharrel and companies new youtube channel iamOTHER. I really dig what he’s doing with this channel. From what I can see it seems to be a sort of YouTube TV network that will broadcast mini series. This is one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” revolutionary ideas.

The video itself is very cool. I enjoyed the history and educational aspect of what happened and coming up with their solution to the issue. Agree or not its an artistic approach on solving the problem.

Enjoy,

Ambassador

Lupe Fiasco - Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)

I’m not going lie.. I refused to listen to this song at first because of the whole Lupe v. Pete Rock thing… (Which I believe could be a publicity stunt…) There are always 3 sides to every story and at the core beef is dumb anyway. At the end of the day it should be all about the music and the bars. Hate it or love it Lupe delivers bars on this record…

“Manifested… say that we should protest just to get arrest, That goes against all my hustling ethics, A bunch of jail niggas say its highly ineffective…”

6 Myths About Poverty

I thought this was very interesting. At a time when talking heads care more about Facebook IPO’s, who will smith slapped, and what people are doing in the privacy of their own bedrooms. There are a lot of myths about poverty that circulate, especially during an election year when the word poverty is avoided at all cost. As the world continues to occupy, in the mist of post Nato conference demonstrations and as we enter the 100th day of a student protest in Montreal, Canada, here is a repost of 6 myths on poverty… If you don’t know.. now you know.. I guess the revolution really WON’T be televised… Especially not if Rupert Murdoch and Ted Turner have anything to say about it. The post was taken from change.org’s Christopher Hill.

Enjoy,

The following passage was taken from an article written by Chris Hill of change.org

#1: The United States has one of the lowest poverty rates in the industrialized world.

Nope, sorry. At about 17 percent, the U.S. actually has the third-highest poverty rate of all the OECD countries, coming in only slightly ahead of Turkey and Mexico. Denmark boasts the lowest poverty rate, an inspiring five percent.

#2: Income inequality isn’t a big problem in America.
Incorrect. Unfortunately, the U.S. still has above-average income inequality, joining the likes of Poland, Portugal, and, once again, Mexico and Turkey. Is this any surprise? After all, in 2006, CEOs of large U.S. companies made more money in a day than average American workers made throughout the year.

#3: Due to our exquisite health system, Americans live longer than residents of other countries.
Wrong, once again. The average life span of an American is below the OECD average, right above the Czech Republic. Of course, rich Americans can still expect to live to ripe old ages; an average wealthy white woman, for example, will enjoy 81.1 years of life. The average life expectancy for her poor, black, male counterpart, on the other hand, is only 66.9 years.

#4: Okay, well, due to our exquisite health system, the U.S. has a lower infant mortality rate than other countries.
No. In fact, out of all the OECD countries, we rank third to last in terms of infant mortality. But at least we get to hang out with our good friends, Mexico and Turkey, who once again join us at the losers’ table.

#5: At least Americans don’t have to spend as much money on health care as people from other countries … right?
The truth is quite the opposite. Americans spend substantially more on their health than people from any other OECD country. Over 15 percent of the national GDP is spent on health care; Switzerland, the closest contender for most money spent on health care, only comes in at 11 percent.

#6: The U.S. spends more money on helping the poor than any other industrialized nation.
This is perhaps the biggest myth of all. At about 16 percent, the United States ranks fourth to last in public social expenditures as a percentage of GDP, beating only Turkey, Mexico and Korea. On the other end of the spectrum, Sweden spends about 29 percent of its GDP on public social expenditures.

Chicago Police Van Runs Over Protesters During Nato Protest

Crazy how there are always 3 sides to every story and what individuals will say in order to try and keep a good reputation. For those of us who were not there we do not know who to believe. However what I can say is, its sad to see that we cannot look to our press to give us much meaningful news anymore. “There’s a war going on outside no man is safe from….”

Something Brand New…

Life… What is life without a dream? There are those who do not believe in dreams, rather they believe that others should find a better use for their time, however; I would disagree. In my opinion, a dream is merely the end result of hard work, accomplished goals and dedication. I do my best to always remember that everyone’s path, experiences, resources and opportunities are different. Who am I to judge? What may seem completely ridiculous to myself, could be the world to someone else. Recently I have made it a point to surround myself with positive energy, and like minded people who are also doing their best to achieve there goals.

I have many dreams that have taken me in many different directions. Fortunately for me, the foundation was always the same. That foundation has always been to be a positive member in society that would help progress and advance my generation, my culture, my peers, and those in need. It is my goal to some how some way help others and myself build a bridge between our dreams and what is reality. This might be through information, through opportunities and/or resources. There is no right or wrong way to spread this message. As long as one gets the message THAT’S what is important to me.

I am a believer! I believe in order to help others I must first take care of myself. I am working hard to be a better use to myself as well as those in need. I’ve run into challenges, obstacles, and setbacks (mostly from no ones fault but my own). That being said, I plan to learn from past mistakes and continue to build my foundation one day at a time. Life at times is trial and error, and we must build from our mistakes. My mother always told me a setback is just a set up for a comeback. There are no such thing as shortcuts, there will be no handouts given. We must sweat, shake hands, kiss babies, smile, laugh, work hard, and remember to enjoy every second of this life.

Let this serve as a new beginning to where we are headed. This will be the platform for my opinions, thoughts, ambitions, wishes, goals and dreams. Too often ideas are born, cultivated, and die in my brain. I hope that this becomes a solution to my problem. I do not have all the answers, nor am I always right… This is FACT. I may not use perfect spelling or grammar, but I do have something to say, and I will so say it. Here’s to a new beginning.

Enjoy,
